What belongs on an invoice
Six things make an invoice complete — and completed invoices get paid faster:
- A unique invoice number. Sequential numbering keeps your books auditable and payments traceable.
- Issue date and due date. "Due on receipt" is fine — just say it. Unstated terms are unpaid terms.
- Who's billing whom. Your business name and contact, and the customer's — both blocks matter for their records too.
- Itemized lines. What, how many, at what price. Vague lump sums invite disputes; specifics get paid.
- Totals, tax, and discounts. Shown separately, so the customer can follow the math in one glance.
- Payment terms. How to pay you (Zelle, PayPal, check…) and any late-fee policy go in the notes.
Your customer list is worth protecting
Most free invoice sites are lead generators: you type your customers’ names, emails, and addresses into their servers, and that data becomes their asset. This one is different by design — the PDF is assembled by your own browser and nothing you type is ever transmitted. Even the optional “remember me” convenience stores your details in your browser’s local storage, on your device, where only you can reach them.

Is this invoice generator really free? What's the catch?
Free with no catch: no signup, no watermark, no invoice limit, no "pro" tier. It exists because resellers who invoice customers are exactly the people our app serves. The tiny credit line in the PDF footer is the only trace, and everything renders in your browser.
Where is my data stored?
Nowhere, unless you ask. The invoice is built entirely on your device and nothing is transmitted. If you tick "Remember my business details", your seller info, logo, and numbering are saved in your browser's local storage — on your device only, removable any time by unticking the box.
Is a PDF invoice legally valid?
Yes. An invoice is a commercial document, not a signed contract — what matters is that it states who is billing whom, for what, when, and for how much. A clearly itemized PDF meets business and tax recordkeeping needs in the US and most other countries. Specific industries can have extra requirements (like VAT details in the EU), which you can add in the details and notes fields.
What's the difference between an invoice and a receipt?
An invoice requests payment (sent before or at delivery, with a due date); a receipt confirms payment already made. For a receipt, set the notes to something like "Paid in full — thank you!" and use the payment date as the invoice date.
What invoice number should I start with?
Anything, as long as you increment consistently — sequential numbers are what bookkeepers and tax auditors want to see. Many small businesses start at INV-0100 rather than 0001. This tool auto-increments for you after each download when remembering is on.
How does the tax field work?
Enter your sales tax or VAT rate as a percent; it's applied to the subtotal after any discount, then shipping is added on top — the way most US registers work. If you don't collect tax, leave it blank and the line disappears from the PDF.
What logo formats can I upload?
Any image your browser can open — PNG, JPG, WebP, even HEIC on most devices. It's converted to a crisp PNG and scaled automatically, and transparent backgrounds are preserved.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After the page loads once, the whole generator — including PDF creation — runs without a connection.
