Design your barcode

Letters, numbers, dashes. The right choice for your own inventory labels.

PNG exports at 3× for crisp printing. No watermark, ever.

Which barcode type do you need?

Other generators throw fifty cryptic symbologies at you. In practice, seven cover essentially everything:

TypeEncodesUse it for
Code 128Any letters + numbersYour own SKU and inventory labels — the reseller workhorse

EAN-1313 digitsRetail products worldwide

The honest part: an image is not a registered number

Any generator — this one included — can draw a perfect UPC for any 12 digits. What it can’t do is make those digits yours. Retail UPCs and EANs are assigned by GS1, the global numbering body, and marketplaces like Amazon check submissions against GS1 records. So: selling a branded product that needs a GTIN? Get the number from GS1, then render it here. Labeling your own inventory bins, thrift hauls, or consignment items? Code 128 with your own SKU scheme needs nobody’s permission and scans with any phone. That second case is what this tool is built around — most sites bury it under enterprise upsells.

Print labels that actually scan

  • SizeKeep the bars at least an inch wide for phone-camera scanning; laser scanners forgive more.
  • ContrastDark bars, light background. Never red bars — scanner lasers are red and see red as white.
  • Quiet zoneThe blank margin either side of the bars is part of the code. This generator bakes it in — don't crop it off.
  • SharpnessPrint from the SVG or the 3× PNG. A screenshot of a barcode is how you get labels that scan one time in five.
  • Test firstPoint your phone camera at one printed label before you run all 100. Ten seconds now saves a reprint later.

Barcode FAQ

Is this barcode generator really free? Any watermark?

Completely free, no watermark, no signup, no resolution limits. PNG downloads export at 3× for crisp printing and SVG is vector, so it scales to any label size. Everything renders in your browser — we never see your codes.

If I generate a UPC here, is my product registered somewhere?

No — and no online generator can do that. A barcode image just encodes the digits you typed. What makes a UPC "real" is the number behind it being assigned to your company by GS1, the global numbering organization. This tool renders any number perfectly; owning the number is a separate (paid) step through GS1.

Can I just make up a UPC for my Amazon or eBay listing?

Don't. Amazon validates GTINs against GS1 records and can suppress listings with unregistered or recycled codes; eBay expects valid GTINs for branded products too. Made-up numbers can collide with real products. For your own internal SKU labels, though, you need no one's permission — that's exactly what Code 128 is for.

Which barcode type should I use for my own inventory?

Code 128. It encodes letters, numbers, and dashes compactly, and every modern scanner reads it. Make your SKUs meaningful — BIN12-JACKET-M tells you the bin, the item, and the size before you even scan.

Why won't my printed barcode scan?

Almost always one of four things: too small (keep bars at least 1 inch wide for phone cameras), low contrast (dark bars on a light background — avoid red bars, scanners can't see red), no quiet zone (leave blank space either side — this generator includes it), or a blurry print (use the SVG or the 3× PNG, never a screenshot). Test with your phone camera before printing a batch.

PNG or SVG — which download should I use?

SVG for anything that gets printed at unknown sizes (label software, Cricut, professional printing) because vectors never blur. PNG for quick use in documents, spreadsheets, or web listings. If a tool rejects SVG, the 3× PNG prints cleanly up to about 4 inches wide.

How do I print a whole run of SKU labels at once?

Switch to Batch mode, paste your SKUs one per line (up to 100), generate, and download the ZIP of PNGs. Drop them into any label template — Avery's free templates, Dymo/Rollo software, or a Word label sheet — and print.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The generator runs entirely in your browser — load the page once and you can keep making barcodes with no connection.
