Scales the longest side to 1600 px. Smaller photos are left as they are.
90% is visually lossless for listing photos and keeps files small.
Listing photo sizes for every marketplace
Each platform crops and compresses photos its own way. Upload close to the recommended size and your listing stays sharp instead of being mangled by the platform’s own resizer. These are the numbers behind the presets above.
| Platform | Recommended | Shape | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| eBay | 1600 px longest side | Any (zoom needs 500+ px) | Minimum 500 px; 1600 px enables zoom |
| Poshmark | 1200 × 1200 px | Square | Covershot is cropped square — pad, don't crop |
| Depop | 1280 × 1280 px | Square | Feed shows squares; white padding looks cleanest |
| Mercari | 1080 × 1080 px | Square | First photo becomes the square thumbnail |
| Etsy | 3000 × 2250 px | 4:3 landscape | Etsy recommends 2000 px+ on the shortest side |
| Facebook Marketplace | 1200 × 1200 px | Square | Square thumbnails in the browse grid |
| 1080 × 1080 or 1080 × 1350 px | Square or 4:5 portrait | Portrait takes more feed space |
Fit or fill: squares without sacrificing the item
Most reselling feeds are square grids, but clothing photos are almost always portrait. You have two honest options. Fit shrinks the whole photo into the square and fills the leftover space with a background color — nothing gets cut off, and with a white background it produces the clean, catalog-style covershot that Poshmark and Depop feeds reward. Fill zooms the photo until it covers the square and trims the edges — better for detail shots where the center is all that matters. The square presets above default to the right choice per platform, and you can flip between them any time.
How it keeps photos sharp
Shrinking a 4000-pixel phone photo to 1200 pixels in a single pass produces jagged edges and moiré on fabric textures — the classic cheap-resizer look. This tool steps large reductions down by halves before the final pass, which is the same trick professional image pipelines use, then encodes at 90% JPEG quality by default. The result is visually identical to the original at listing size, at a fraction of the file size. If a platform compresses aggressively (they all do), starting from a clean resize means their compression has less to destroy.
Image resizing FAQ
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The resizer runs on the Canvas API built into your browser — decoding, scaling, and re-encoding all happen on your own device. You can load this page, turn off your internet connection, and it still works. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or watermarked.
What size should eBay listing photos be?
eBay requires at least 500 px on the longest side and recommends 1600 px on the longest side so buyers can zoom. The eBay preset in this tool scales your longest side to exactly 1600 px and keeps the proportions, which also keeps files small enough to upload quickly from your phone.
How do I make a photo square without cutting off the item?
Use a square preset with "Fit (add background)". The photo is scaled to fit inside the square and the empty space is filled with a background color — white by default, which is exactly the clean look Poshmark and Depop feeds reward. "Fill (crop edges)" does the opposite: it fills the whole square and trims the overflow.
Does resizing reduce photo quality?
Shrinking a photo discards pixels by definition, but done well it is invisible at listing sizes. This tool scales large reductions in halving steps rather than one jump, which avoids the jagged, aliased look naive resizers produce, and encodes at 90% quality by default — visually lossless for marketplace photos.
Should I save listing photos as JPG, PNG, or WebP?
JPG is the safe default: every marketplace accepts it and files stay small. WebP is 25 to 35 percent smaller at the same quality but a few older upload forms reject it. PNG is lossless and much larger — use it only for graphics or screenshots, not clothing photos.
Can I resize many photos at once?
Yes — drop up to 40 photos, resize them in one click, then download them individually or grab everything as a single ZIP file. The ZIP is also built in your browser.
Why did my file get bigger after resizing?
Two common reasons: converting a JPG to PNG (PNG is lossless and stores photos inefficiently), or scaling a photo up with an exact-size preset so it meets a platform minimum. Keep the format as JPG and downscale rather than upscale whenever you can.
Does this work on a phone?
Yes. It runs in any modern mobile browser — pick photos straight from your camera roll. Processing happens on the phone itself, so even large batches cost you no data beyond loading the page once.
